This is a excellent app for training's your ears to hear different frequencies in the music to learn how to boost and cut unwanted frequencies
App crashed on launch when I first got it. Left a review about it and - what do you know - it works not two days later! Excited to dig in and leave a long term use review.
App sees some songs in Apple Music library but does not allow you to play any of them. No errors, song isn’t even selected. App is ineligible for refund. Don’t waste your money.
Will allow me to import local files on iPad and EQ that is on basic version is off and useless. Waste of time and money! Not any real setup options
This is one of the best ways to improve your ability to recognize frequencies. PERIOD! It’s accurate and affordable! My only complaint is that it’s not available for computers.😔
I just purchased this app hoping to use it with my personal Apple Music library but something doesn’t seem to be working. Does this app not work with Apple Music streaming? Only about 3 songs from my Apple Music library are showing up. I’m very confused and would really like the app to work as it should. Any developer help?
This app is awesome– it’s the only one I’ve seen that quizzes you on boosts AND cuts and it’s so easy to use your own music. It’s best if you don’t use phone speakers, I do it in my car and with headphones. It’s super fun and easy to do for a long time. My ear has noticeably improved. The price is insanely worth it if you’re dedicated to improving your mixes. This is a company that obviously cares for musicians– hearEQ, beat mirror, and Waay are all such valuable tools for improving your ear and musicianship. Genuinely, thank you!!
Once you’ve started ain’t no going back.
I hardly ever write reviews but I just bought a subscription to a different training website and it offers sort of the same thing but cost me $24 a month. This app is so amazing
It’d be really helpful if there was a Compare button after you miss a question on a quiz. That way you could better understand the differences between your guess and the right answer. But I use this daily!
I love this app for training ears to hear frequencies
I really enjoy using this app. It helps fine tune my ears for better beat production. I just wish I could add song to the add song feature without having to connect to a computer. Not having a MacBook with my iPhone makes this process very difficult. Maybe a feature where you could add songs directly from iCloud or files would be nice, it would definitely deserve 5 stars. Other than that the app is perfection.
Not sure why but every time I try to open the app it immediately crashes/closes making it unusable. I uninstalled/reinstalled it several times with no luck. iOS version is up to date etc... Please fix? UPDATE: the app finally opens and functions fine now, i thought it was due to an updated version since my last review but since the Dev responded and i dont see any changes in the Version History timeline i'm not sure what happened; but i'm glad i can finally use the app! Gave it 4 stars for the nice interface and good customer service, will update my rating again once i experience the app's learning results and methods etc.
💯❤️
I tell my friends about the app!
Elegant User experience makes this app incredibly intuitive and easy to use. My only enhancement request would be to allow the quizzes to increment through a playlist on either each quiz, or each question.
Reps every day!
The app SLAPS
Something I’ve always wanted!
Though it’s only my second day using this app, it’s quickly becoming my go-to training tool. The number one things this has over other solutions is the ability to use your own music library, training my ears on much more relevant content. Would love to see a Mac version to use on my monitors.
I really liked it at first but for paying $6 the advanced eq and pink noise should all be included and it sorta ticked me off that it wasn’t to be honest. I mean the entire gta game on mobile is worth that much and I could load any song into fl studio and pull up the eq and test myself that way for free. Despite that I would still actually use the app because it is well made but it just doesn’t feel worth it unless it was all included and now I sorta just feel urged to use it just to get my money’s worth out of it. No disrespect to the creator because you did do a good job making the app and I guess I shouldve looked into it more before buying it anyways but for $5.99 there shouldn’t be any micro or side transactions whatsoever that is a big enough price to include it all in one package and without that it just feels like $1.99 app at most
@highandmightybrass
This is the eq training app I have been looking for! Perfect! Awesome company! Awesome app!
This is a really good app for any sound engineer that needs more practice in identifying levels of certain frequencies. The cool thing is that you can select songs from your music, BUT, I wonder if there’s a way to grant access to the selection of Spotify music? That is the app I use most for music. Other than that, it is a clear, precise, and extremely helpful tool in developing sharp ears for sound engineers.
I haven’t wanted to write an app review before using HearEQ. But I’m telling all my musician/audio friends about it, so it feels only fair! I used to use Golden Ears back in the day for audio ear training. HearEQ is like what Golden Ears wanted to be when it grew up. Lean, mean, contextually applicable machine. The ability to load up your own music, actively train and quiz on is game-changing. Doing this while outside of the studio environment (my favorite place to assess mixes) is a dream. Lots of thoughtful detail helps you train exactly what you want to train. I went straight to buy the advanced EQ module, IMO this should be priced at 30 bucks not 3. So valuable. And so hard :) TenKettles/Alex is my hero. Thanks for making this, it’s directly responsible for improving my hearing and skill as an engineer.
Man what a great thing. This will help me with mixing a ton.
Hey Alex + the whole dev team, this is some seriously awesome work and a great joy to use. It’s helping me out a ton. Thank you for helping make my life and the life of all the musicians and engineers out there that much better. Recommending this to all my music tech classmates!
So far it’s helping a lot in my first few minutes of using it. I love how you can adjust the quiz to just one frequency or all of them! A must grab for all producers and engineers.
Hi, just got this app last week and I love it. It’s been a game changer for my ability to hear frequencies and correct feedback! I purchased the pink noise module and am not finding where to access it. How does it work?
Great for ear training!
It's a great simple app to improve your understanding and recognition of different frequency areas. I'd recommend this app to any of my peers or students but along with a headphone warning. When doing a quiz the app will reset your headphone volume to a previous level. Meaning that if you're planning on doing some HearEQ and scale your volume down to half, but you were listening to YouTube or something at 90% volume, even if you dial it down before starting a quiz, it will hit you at that 90% volume again when you start the quiz. It can be very unexpected and has cause many a jump-scare. Other than that it's helped me out a lot! This turned out to be an operating system issue and not the app. The dev is super on top of things too so an extra kudos for that as well.
Really cool to use right before I start school! HearEq has the right amount of songs to study from all genres. I recommend this app to anyone wanting to develop a golden ear when mixing/mastering music.
Every once in a while I remember how awesome this app is and curse myself for not practicing with it more! Essential skill training for mixers, producers, and music directors.
Must buy for any serious musicians.
Good training. I saw a big improvement in my listening after 30 mins. You should know that it's another $2-3 to unlock the 30 channel EQ. You start with ten or so.
Love the UI and the 30 band feature. (Wish they had a Q option though)
Love this app. I'm still a beginner but this is what I was looking for. Charging for pink noise seems like a bit of a money grab when you can just put it in your music library. Still, it's great.
Does exactly what it is intended for while keeping it simple and bug free. I especially like using songs from my own library for the learning process and the quizzes. Edit: i have one request for the developer. Please allow the quiz to go beyond 10 questions so that i can enjoy songs from my library all the way through. I would pay extra to unlock a feature like that. That's how much of a difference i think it'll make in the experience.
Great for learning how the mixing of certain frequencies change the sound of music. Only took off one star for making us pay for pink noise. Edit: Adding the star back because of how much I'm enjoying using the app and the developer definitely demonstrates their care for the app.
This app is perfect if you are trying to practice identifying frequencies and problem solving when it comes to EQ. Being able to practice with songs in your iTunes library is a nice feature as well. Another helpful feature that I discovered is using the 30 band EQ (upgrade) practice mode to identify where certain instruments sit in the mix. 5/5
I've been looking for something like this. This is a great app!
This is an absolutely must-have app for ear training on your phone. I have a few others that I hardly use at all, because nothing else I've found comes close. Simple, full-featured, effective, and well designed.
Helpful tool to start to understand EQ!
5-stars for the idea but 2-stars for the implementation. I thought there would be guided lessons but it's simply an EQ toy box you can play with (listening to source material) and then design your own quizzes 😒 Would be a 5-star app if it had guided lessons and a ladder of set test material to build knowledge and confidence.
Just started with one frequency but I think it is a great app and will improve ear to hear the mix better. I have been using headphones but can't wait to test it on mixer at church
Makes listening to rad tunes educational for my ears. Though the pink noise add on is really the best. Everyone should get it!
I'm relatively new to EQing, I stumbled across this tool and I'm glad I did. It's a great way to become familiar with the various frequency ranges and what they sound like, within the context of your favorite music installed on your device. Fun & educational!
No Spotify support! Can I get a refund!?
Exactly what I needed to develop my ear for EQ!!!
